Midterms are finished!!!
History was ridiculously easy, almost a joke (I say that now but should wait until I get my grade back). German presentation was good, however apathy definitely took over me. German test was a little challenging but fair. And philosophy? Whatever.
October 3rd was Reunification Day in Germany. The Day of German Unity on October 3rd has been a German national holiday since the reunification in 1990, when the German reunification was brought out in full force. The proposed holiday was going to be November 9th, the day the wall fell, however November 9th is also the anniversary of the first large-scale Nazi-led pogroms against the Jewish in 1938.There was a festival at the Brandenburg Gate commemorating the holiday. Antonia and I shared some bonding time and went together. There were rides, food, a live concert, and shops.(PS Antonia has dropped the attitude now that Christine has left)
Even though this day was the reunification anniversary, I noticed that many German flags or colors were not being waved. Antonia told me that there is still resentment about Germany's history and that many Germans are still not proud to be Germans. She told me that it was not until Germany hosted the World Cup in 2006 that people started waving flags again.
After checking out the festival we went to Jonas's place to have dinner. I can now say I have moved on from my crush-at-first-site-phase. I am almost 100% sure he has a girlfriend, and since spending more time with him, I have become disinterested :p. Sorry Jonas, you missed out! But nonetheless we had a wonderful evening. After a midterm one afternoon I also went to Kaufhaus Des Westens (KaDeVe). It opened in 1907, has survived both wars, the division, and now is the largest department store in Europe. 7 stories!! We got lost in there, really schnazzy. I got some Berlin authentics for our hosts in Dublin, Brussels, and Cologne. Quick update for now, I need to pack for vacation! See y'all in 10 days!
